These terms describe how RepChecked works and what we expect from the people who use it. Please read them together with our Privacy Policy.
Draft for review
This document is a working draft awaiting review by the founder and legal counsel. It is published so members can see the direction of our policies. It is not yet a final agreement.
You must be at least 18 years old to use RepChecked. Each person may hold one account. Creating additional accounts, sharing an account, or transferring an account to another person is not permitted and may result in suspension of every account involved.
You are responsible for the security of your login credentials and for all activity that happens under your account. Tell us at once if you believe your account has been accessed without your permission.
The name and ZIP code you enter when you sign up must match your government issued identification. Accounts that provide false registration details may be closed without notice.
Core features of RepChecked require a verified identity. Verification is performed by a third party identity provider on our behalf. By starting verification you consent to that provider processing your identification document and a photo of you for the purpose of confirming who you are.
We store the outcome of verification and a small set of matching details described in our Privacy Policy. We do not store copies of your identification document.
If verification fails you may retry. If we believe verification was completed with fraudulent or borrowed documents we may close the account and decline future verification attempts.
RepChecked lets two verified members record a transaction they completed with each other. A transaction only affects a reputation once both parties have confirmed it and, for shipped items, once carrier tracking confirms delivery.
You must only log transactions that actually took place, name the correct counterparty, and provide accurate amounts, descriptions and tracking numbers. A member named in a transaction may decline it if it did not happen. Logging fabricated, duplicate or circular transactions to inflate a score is a serious violation of these terms.
Feedback is revealed to both parties at the same time and cannot be edited once revealed. Feedback must be honest and must not contain threats, harassment, personal contact details, or content unrelated to the transaction.
Members may file a report against another member for fraud or for a disputed transaction. Reports must be truthful, filed in good faith, and supported by evidence where it exists. The reported member is notified and given a chance to respond before a decision is made.
RepChecked reviews reports manually. We may request more information from either party, request that evidence be removed or corrected, or close a report as unsubstantiated. Filing a report with fabricated evidence or to harass another member is a violation of these terms and may carry a penalty.
Confirmed findings may be shown on the reported member’s public profile as part of their reputation. We do not publish the contents of a report or the identity of the reporter.
When a report is confirmed, RepChecked may reduce the affected member’s reputation score, restrict features, or suspend or close the account, depending on the seriousness of the conduct. The size of a reputation penalty is set by the reviewing administrator and recorded with the report.
A member who receives a penalty may appeal within 30 days of the decision. Appeals are reviewed by a different administrator where possible. An appeal may be upheld, overturned, or modified to a reduced penalty. Only one appeal may be pending at a time and each penalty may be appealed once.
We may remove content, restrict features, or close an account at any time where we reasonably believe it is necessary to protect other members, comply with the law, or prevent abuse of the service.
RepChecked provides information to help members make their own decisions. A reputation score, a verification badge or a trade history is not a guarantee that a member will act honestly. You are solely responsible for deciding whether and how to transact with another member, and RepChecked is not a party to any transaction between members.
The service is provided on an as is and as available basis. To the fullest extent permitted by law, RepChecked disclaims all warranties, express or implied, and will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for any loss of money, goods, profits or data arising from your use of the service or from your dealings with other members.
Where liability cannot be excluded, our total liability to you for any claim arising out of the service is limited to the amount you paid to RepChecked in the twelve months before the claim arose.
If you believe information shown about you on RepChecked is inaccurate, out of date, or was recorded without a proper basis, you may request a correction. Send the request through the contact page with the profile or transaction concerned and a description of the problem. We aim to acknowledge requests within five business days.
While a request is under review we may temporarily hide the disputed information. If we find the information is inaccurate we will correct or remove it and recalculate any affected reputation score.
Members who are the subject of a confirmed report may not use this process to relitigate the decision. The appeals process in section 5 applies instead.
You may close your account and request erasure of your personal data at any time from your account settings or through the contact page. We will delete or anonymize your personal data within 30 days, except where we must keep it to meet a legal obligation, resolve a dispute, or prevent fraud.
Transactions and reports involve other members. When your account is erased, your side of a shared record is anonymized rather than deleted so the other member’s history stays intact. Confirmed fraud findings may be retained in anonymized form for the protection of other members.
Our Privacy Policy explains what we collect, why, and how long we keep it.
We may update these terms from time to time. When we make a material change we will notify members by email or through the service before the change takes effect. Continuing to use RepChecked after the change takes effect means you accept the updated terms.
If anything in these terms is unclear, or you want to make a correction or erasure request, reach us through the contact page.
